Interior architect and designer
Sébastien Coudert-Maugendre is a French interior architect and designer, based between Paris and Lausanne. He works on residential, tertiary, hotel and catering projects in France and abroad, intervening at every stage, from structure and decoration to the creation of custom-made furniture and objects.
A graduate of ESAM Design, winner of the Prix Jeune Talent at the AD Magazine & Range Rover Awards 2025 and a member of the Conseil Français d'Architecture Intérieure, he is developing an approach at the crossroads of interior architecture, design and arts and crafts.
Before devoting himself fully to architecture, he worked for several years as a marketing manager in England, the Netherlands and Asia, an experience that gave him a culture of precision, organization and management of complex projects, qualities that he now transposes into his practice.
"it's through the work of the hand that the emotion and life of a space are born".
Far from the effects of fashion, Sébastien Coudert-Maugendre cultivates a French elegance based on respect for place and the right proportions. His work explores the balance between purity and sensitivity, memory and modernity, to create interiors that tell a story through materials and craftsmanship.
As a child, he tirelessly drew the architecture and landscapes he discovered or imagined. From this instinctive gesture sprang a sensitivity to materials, volumes and light, which today lies at the heart of his practice. His travels in Asia, Central America and Europe have nurtured an open view of cultures, nature and know-how.
Passionate about the decorative arts, he draws on Art Deco, Italian modernism and French eclecticism for a language of balance and elegance.
His references range from the expressive force of Jean Dunand's materials to the sensuality of Gio Ponti's lines and the cultivated freedom of Jacques Grange. Equally nourished by contemporary art, which he sees as an extension rather than a rupture, his work composes a singular grammar where purity meets the sensitivity of materials and craftsmanship, to create elegant, welcoming interiors where detail becomes a source of emotion.
His work has been presented at the Grand Palais during the Salon Révélations, at Paris Design Week, at the Modern Art Fair, and at the Musée de la Toile de Jouy. Represented by Galerie Gosserez and Galerie 208, he now pursues a demanding line of research into the links between architecture, design and craftsmanship.
approach
Working on architecture and décor as a whole. Free spaces from anything that serves neither comfort nor aesthetics. Pay particular attention to visual coherence and comfort of use.
Bringing together bespoke furniture, contemporary creations and historical pieces, chosen with the same care as a work of art.
"Always seek the right balance between functional requirements and sensitive expression, with respect for the place, its uses and the aspirations of its occupants."
Each project begins with a detail, a material, a drawing, an object.
From this starting point, a thread unfolds that structures the whole. The space is conceived as a narrative, where proportions, circulation and atmospheres form a balance.
"Purity is never synonymous with nudity. It is enlivened by sculptural punctuations, selected pieces, natural and handcrafted materials that give each place its singularity."
